Asst. Prof. Dr. John Naley Johnston อาจารย์ประจำวิทยาลัยศาสนศึกษา มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ได้รับเชิญให้บรรยายในหัวข้อ “Challenges of Environmental Sustainability in Thai Buddhist Material Culture and Practice” ภายใต้ชุดการบรรยาย Buddhism: Expectation and Reality Series จัดโดย The Siam Society เมื่อวันที่ 19 มีนาคม 2569
การบรรยายครั้งนี้มุ่งวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพุทธศาสนาในประเทศไทยกับประเด็นความยั่งยืนด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม โดยสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความท้าทายระหว่างแนวคิดเชิงอุดมคติกับการปฏิบัติจริงในสังคม รวมถึงบทบาทของแนวคิดทางศาสนา เช่น การทำบุญและการให้ทาน ที่อาจส่งผลต่อรูปแบบการบริโภคและพฤติกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับความยั่งยืน
ในการนี้ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร. Milos Hubina รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิจัยและวิเทศสัมพันธ์ และ ดร. Francesco Bianchini ได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมดังกล่าว เพื่อร่วมแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองทางวิชาการและเสริมสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือ
การเข้าร่วมเวทีวิชาการในครั้งนี้สะท้อนบทบาทของวิทยาลัยศาสนศึกษา มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ในการมีส่วนร่วมในประเด็นร่วมสมัยระดับสากล โดยเฉพาะด้านศาสนา สิ่งแวดล้อม และสังคม

Asst. Prof. Dr. John Naley Johnston of the College of Religious Studies, Mahidol University was invited to deliver a talk on “Challenges of Environmental Sustainability in Thai Buddhist Material Culture and Practice” as part of the Buddhism: Expectation and Reality Series hosted by The Siam Society on 19 March 2026.
The lecture examined the relationship between Buddhism in Thailand and environmental sustainability, highlighting the gap between idealized perceptions and actual practices. It also explored how key religious concepts, such as merit-making and generosity, may influence consumption patterns and contribute to sustainability challenges.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milos Hubina, Associate Dean for Research and International Relations, and Dr. Francesco Bianchini also attended the event, contributing to academic exchange and strengthening collaborative networks.
This engagement reflects the active role of the College of Religious Studies, Mahidol University in addressing contemporary global issues at the intersection of religion, society, and the environment.
