College of Religious Studies (CRS) Delegation Visits Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On 4-5 June 2013, a delegation from the College of Religious Studies, (CRS), Mahidol University, Salaya, Thailand represented by the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wathinee Boonchalaksi, Asst. Prof. Dr. Imtiyaz Yusuf and Dr. Kieko Obuse, Lecturer visited Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to participate in the Symposium On Islam And The New Era Of Asean Nations : Unity Of Worldview And ASEAN Countries” and to discuss about setting up a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.
On 4th June 2013, Asst. Prof. Dr. Imtiyaz Yusuf, presented his paper titled, "Islam and Buddhism in ASEAN: From Co-existence to Understanding – The Theological/Doctrinal and Social Aspects" at the symposium and also gave television and radio interviews concerning this topic.
On 5th June 2013, the CRS delegation led by the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wathinee Boonchalaksi met with faculty members of IKIM represented by Dr. Nik Mustapha bin Nik Hassan, Director, IKIM, Dr. Azizan binti Baharuddin, Deputy Director, IKIM, Dr. Mohd. Zaid bin Ismail, Director, Center for Science and Environmental Studies, Dr. Wan Azhar bin Wan Ahmad, Director, Center of Syariah, Law and Politics to deliberate on the draft document of the proposed MOU between the two institutions. Both sides agreed to set up an MOU which will comprise of following items for cooperation between two institutions.
1.Setting up together a secretariat for inter-religious dialogue in ASEAN, a network of inter-religious initiatives across ASEAN (Buddhists, Christians and Muslims) with no fixed location (headquarters) in the beginning.
2.Three main areas of collaboration between IKIM and CRS (focus on Buddhism and Islam) will be:
a. short term staff exchange
b. short training programs for groups (students, etc) visiting each other institutions for one week period maximum.
c. series of joint workshops, seminars and conferences, first workshop to be held on 3-4 October. Call for papers (or sending invitations) to be about 3 months in advance.
3. Both institutions will follow up on the matters deliberated at this meeting for taking of further action to make them concrete.
The MOU will be signed in the next meeting between the two institutions.
